Police intervene Baluwatar protest, arrest rights activists, conflict victims
Police rounded several human rights activists and conflict victims who were staging demonstration outside the Prime Minister’s official residence in the Capital on Thursday. Rights activists and conflict victims had assembled at Baluwatar on the occasion of the International Day for the Right to the Truth Concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims. Deputy Superintendent of Police Lokendra Shrestha said the protesters were detained for obstructing the traffic.
Rights activist Charan Prasai, Ram Bhandari, Kamala Rai, and Lenin Bista, among others, were arrested from the scene. Police also snatched an iPad from a bystander for taking pictures of the demonstration.
The protesters cleared the road only after police agreed to release the people who had been arrested.
