The Supreme Court has quashed a petition for reviewing its own earlier decision relating to promotion of four Deputy Inspector Generals of Police (DIG) to Additional Inspector General (AIG).
A full bench of Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha and Justices Sushila Karki and Debendra Gopal Shrestha decided on December 18 not to entertain the government’s review petition that had sought to nullify the SC’s earlier decision, ordering for the promotion of the four DIGs. This has paved the way for four plaintiffs—Yadav Adhikari, Parsuram Khatri, Bishworaj Shahi and Sushilbar Singh Thapa—to be promoted as AIG.
The Home Ministry is yet to decide on the matter. Discussions are ongoing on the possible work stations of the officials concerned, ministry Spokesperson Laxmi Dhakal said. On September 24, 2014, the SC had directed the government to promote the concerned officials by creating new sanctioned positions.
