The satirical ritual was organised by civil society members, including comedy duo Madan Krishna Shrestha and Hari Bansha Acharya, former Chief Secretary Leela Mani Paudyal and the prayer saw the presence of a large number of people. Comedian Manoj Gajurel, who impersonated Modi, offered the prayers on the temple premises.
The organisers said that Modi, being an ardent worshipper of Hindu god Shiva, has committed a sin by inflicting misery on Nepal, which is home to one of the main temples of Shiva, Pashupatinath.
In Hindu tradition, “Chhyama Puja” is organised for asking forgiveness from the deity for sins committed during one’s lifetime.
In the programme, Acharya gifted “Modi” a bottle that is said to have contained tears of Nepalis as a symbol of pain faced by people, while “Modi” gifted Acharya a bottle of gasoline.
