Revengeful MMC sink Three Star
Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC) ousted their archrivals Three Star Club 3-1 to enter the semi-finals of the third Birat Gold Cup football tournament here on Tuesday.Binod Bhandari
The two teams were clashing for the second time in three days after their Aaha Gold Cup final match in Pokhara where Three Star had edged MMC 1-0 to win the title.
However, MMC were eager to turn the page around and quickly went in front with Deepak Rai goal in the second minute.
The Lalitpur-based outfits Three Star hit back with a 24th minute equaliser through Bishnu Sunuwar. But Shiva Shrestha and Bishal Rai scored in the final stages of the match to avenge the painful defeat inflicted by fellow top-tier opponents during the Aaha Gold Cup final on Saturday. MMC will now meet Tribhuvan Army Club in the semi-finals on Thursday.
Man-of-the-match Deepak put MMC ahead when he headed home a pass from Leonce Zikahe Dodoz. Sunuwar produced another header on a freekick from Joe to bring Three Star on level terms. After heading into the second half locked on 1-1, both teams pressed hard to take the lead and it was MMC who got it.
Three Star custodian Kiran Chemjong punched a header from Sulav Maskey off a corner from Bikram Limbu and the ball landed in front of unmarked Shrestha who made no mistake firing home with a one-touch shot in the 80th minute.
As Three Star searched for an equaliser, MMC put the issue beyond doubt after 61st minute substitute Bishal cashed in on a pass from Sulav Maskey to score from the area in the added-on time.
