Govt promotes 11 DIGs to the post of AIG

The Ministry of Home Affairs on July 14 had recommended 11 DIGs for the post of AIG with a plan to depute one AIG in each province and four in Kathmandu.
A Cabinet meeting promoted 11 DIGs to the post of AIG as per the earlier recommendation, said Minister for Information and Communications Mohan Basnet.
The Cabinet on Thursday also promoted 15 senior superintendents of police to the post of DIG, 25 SPs to the post of SSP and 35 DSPs to the post of SP.
DSP Sanjeeb Sharma Das, who had run into controversy for his negligence during investigation into a girl’s rape and murder in Ramechhap, is among the officials who were promoted on Thursday.
A 14-year-old girl of Sirise, Sabik Sainpu VDC-1, Ramechhap, was murdered after rape on January 19, 2012 when DSP Sharma was the chief of District Police Office, Ramechhap.
He has been accused of not initiating investigation for months.
The government had faced criticism for recommending DSP Sharma for promotion. Following widespread criticism, the government had suspended DSP Sharma.
