The 6th Nepal International Trade Fair concluded on Monday posting business transactions worth Rs 200 million.

The fair was organised by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and Trade and Export Promotion Centre with the aim of promoting Nepali goods by bringing together national and international exhibitors to exchange knowledge and new ideas in product development.

Hosted at the Exhibition Hall in Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu, the trade fair attracted close to 200,000 visitors, the organisers said in a statement.

The thunderous success of this year’s trade fair has prompted the organisers to announce its 7th edition in Kathmandu for next year, to be held during March. “Around 200 stalls have already been booked for the 7th edition,” said the FNCCI statement.

The fair had featured agricultural products grown at high altitude and herbal products from Nepal. 340 stalls featuring goods from countries like China, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Thailand were present over the five day trade fair. Prospective buyers from Japan, South Korea and Thailand were also present.

Breaking down the countries with the most number of stalls present in the trade fair, China had the highest at 85 stalls followed by Bangladesh had 50, while Pakistan, India and Thailand had 20, 10 and 5 stalls respectively.

Apart from stalls featuring products, there were also stalls featuring several services. To ensure the success and obtain sustainable results from the Nepal International Trade Fair, FNCCI has stated that it has been promoting the event as an important forum that can connect domestic entrepreneurs with foreign entrepreneurs and supply a wide range of goods and services under a single roof.

Ministers, parliamentarians and representatives of diplomatic community were present at the 6th Nepal International Trade Fair. The event was inaugurated by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Thursday. Speaking at a forum, PM Dahal had stated that Nepal was a fertile land for investment, and urged the national and international community to invest here without hesitation.

A cabinet meeting chaired by the prime minister also made a quick decision to construct a modern building at Chobhar to hold fairs and seminars.
