The celebrations also saw various interaction sessions and workshops between student-artists, local and international theatre artists, children’s literature authors and guardians.
Organised annually by Assitej International— International Association of Theatre for Children and Young People—in its 83 member countries, World Children’s Theatre Day seeks to facilitate the exchange of ideas and cultural traditions for professionals involved in theatre for children and young people. In Nepal, the celebrations are hosted by Assitej-Nepal and the Theatre Centre for Children Nepal.
This year’s theme for the celebrations was: “Take a Child to the Theatre.” The event sought to encourage parents, guardians and educational institutions to actively encourage children to visit and experience theatres in their cities, according to Kedar Shrestha, the director of Theatre Centre for Children Nepal. He also informed that in order to encourage the growing body of student theatre artists in Nepal, a 15-day acting workshop is being organised at the Theatre Mall starting April 1.
