Hong Kong, however, will be more than just another concert venue for Nepathya. Musicians Bhim Poon, one of Nepathya’s founders, and Vikram Gurung are currently residing in the city. Vikram Gurung is composer of such legendary numbers as Bhulu Bhulu Lagyo Malai and Ankhako Nid, both of which feature vocals by the late Arun Thapa.
Speaking about the prospect of meeting his old friend, Nepathya frontman Amrit Gurung said: “I have had long acquaintance with Vikram dai, I am glad we now have a musical connection with him.” Gurung was referring to the song Kurup Anuhaar which was written by Sarubhakta and composed by Vikram Gurung and was recently performed for the first time at Nepathya’s concert in Tundhikhel last January. “I look forward to performing his song in his presence,” Amrit said.
Kurup Anuhaar first began to take shape about 35 years ago when Vikram Gururng and Sarubhakta were classmates at Tribhuwan University, Kirtipur. Gurung now works as a teacher in Hong Kong and poet Sarubhakta is currently the Chancellor of Nepal Academy of Music and Drama.
The show is being organised by Hong Kong-based Tamu Association and will take place at Yuen Long Theatre on March 12.
