The academic session in lower Manang begins on February 12. Roman Bishwokarma, a tenth grader at Bhanu Secondary School in Dharapani, said that they were studying without textbooks. “Even used books are in shortage,” he said.
The textbook shortage in the district has been caused by road obstruction as the authorities have started upgrading the Beshishahar-Chame road, said Bhim Bahadur Karki, the headmaster of Bhanu Secondary School.
“The road upgradation works started from February first week, closing our option of transporting school textbooks. We can transport the textbooks using porters but that can be very expensive,” he said.
A Lamjung-based stationary shop is responsible for supplying textbooks to Manang.
There are 27 community schools in 13 VDCs of Manang.
District Education Officer Rama Kanta Sharma said the office has directed all schools to continue the classes until an arrangement has been made to supply the textbooks.
