The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has initiated investigation into the alleged irregularities in distributing relief to the earthquake victims in Gorkha.
Two separate teams from the CIAA’s central and regional offices arrived in the district on Sunday. The CIAA teams have initiated probe as well as monitoring of relief distribution in the district, the epicentre of April 25 earthquake.
CIAA spokesperson Krishna Hari Pushkar said the anti-graft body started investigation into the alleged irregularities. “The investigation is ongoing over various issues of relief,” Pushkar told the Post over telephone.
Recent news reports have stated that relief materials meant for quake survivors have gone missing from the warehouse of the District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) in Gorkha. A DDMC officer said that most pressure cookers and other items that were meant for distribution to the earthquake survivors are missing. An investigation officer told the Post that the CIAA teams met with Chief District Officer Uddhav Timilsina and district police chief Basanta Rajaure and started the investigation. The teams also inquired the chiefs of various government offices and DDMC members on the matter.
Local leaders of various political parties, government employees and security personnel have been accused of misappropriating the relief materials in the district.
