Home Ministry issues circular against issuing citizenships with derogatory namesThe ministry has ordered its subordinate offices to correct the names and surnames if the persons concerned ask for rectification.
The Home Ministry has ordered the agencies under its purview not to issue citizenship certificates with names that undermine the bearer’s honour and amend the names if the persons concerned seek correction.
Issuing a statement on Monday, the Home Ministry said its attention has been drawn to various news reports and information about citizenships that have been issued with names and surnames that undermined the honour of the citizens.
“The Home Ministry has decided not to issue citizenship certificates with names and surnames that undermine the respect of the citizens,” Home Ministry spokesperson Fanindra Mani Pokharel said in a statement. “If the person concerned requests for corrections, make arrangements for the same by following the due process.”
