Two persons were killed and three injured when a Hetauda-bound jeep swerved off the road and fell some 500 metres below at Jurikhet along Bhemphedi-Kulekhani road section in Makwanpur.
Police identified the deceased as Sharad Baidya, 55, and his sister Anuja Shrestha, 40, of Kathmandu. Ten-year-old Aaraja Shrestha was airlifted to the Capital, while Dipak Shreatha and driver Dipak Bhujel are receiving treatment at Churehill Hospital in Makwanpur.
“Dipak’s situation is very critical. It was not possible to airlift him to Kathmandu.
We will refer him to a hospital in the Capital once his condition improves a bit,” said Dr Sundar Shrestha at the hospital. The deceased and the injured are relatives who were on their way to Hetauda from Kathmandu.
Police suspected brake failure might be the cause of the accident. Security personnel and locals rescued the victims.
In Kapilvastu, two persons were killed when an ambulance collided with a bus head-on at Banganga along the East-West Highway on Saturday morning. Five others were injured in the incident. Subba Rana, 55, and Madiya Rana, 60, of Kanchanpur died in the incident, said police. Both the deceased were passengers on the Kanchanpur-bound ambulance.
