The agitating locals demonstrated in Manma, the district headquarters of Kalikot, demanding that Chhapre VDC be retained in the area number seven. Janak Bahadur Shahi of Chilkhaya said they staged the protest as they were tagged along with Odanuk and Gela VDCs. The committee has recommended Padamghat as the centre of the VDC.
“We took to the streets after the VDC office decided to put the VDC in the area number eight. In the past, Chilkhaya was the centre of the area,” he said.
The committee has recommended making nine village councils and two municipalities in Kalikot. Local Development Officer Pradipraj Adhikari said they had only approved the decision of the VDC office. “But the locals are dissatisfied at the proposal,” he said.
Protest continues in Banke
BANKE: Locals of Hirminiya VDC have been demonstrating for a month in protest of the district-level technical committee’s proposal to include the VDC in Nepalgunj Sub-metropolis.
“We will stage a stronger protest if the concerned authorities do not address our demand,” said Subash Singh Thakur, coordinator of the struggle committee.
The struggle committee has decided to picket the District Development Committee on Sunday. Similarly, people of Phattepur and Gangapur have also expressed their dissatisfaction at the proposal, saying that the proposed units will not be appropriate as the areas are inaccessible. The LLRC technical committee has proposed eight local units, including a sub-metropolis in the district.
