A passenger jeep veered off the road and fell some 200 metres below at Dhairing-2 in Parbat, killing three persons and injuring eight others. Ram Maya Damai of Myagdi and Dil Kumari Budhathoki and Hari Maya Pun of Kaski died in the accident, police said. Damai died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries at Myagdi District Hospital.
The ill-fated vehicle (Ga 1 Ja 5105) was en route to Milanchowk from Dharapani. Driver Rim Bahadur Phagami told police that the accident occurred due to a brake failure in the steep and sleeper road.
One Amrit Pun, who has sustained serious injury, was taken to Manipal Teaching Hospital in Pokhara for treatment.
In Chitwan, a passenger bus collided head-on with a truck at Piple along the East-West Highway, killing the truck driver. Twenty-one people were injured, five critically, in the incident. The injured are under going treatment at various hospitals in Bharatpur.
Police identified the deceased as Hemanta Khadka of Bara. The security personnel took out his body from the mangled truck.
In another head-on collision involving two passenger buses, one person died and nine other were injured at Benighat in Dhading along the Prithvi Highway. The Kathmandu-bound bus collided with another bus heading to Lamjung. Gaganshil Thapa Magar of Surkhet, a passenger on the Capital-bound bus, died on the spot, police said. Two seriously injured victims were rushed to Kathmandu, while others are receiving treatment at Malekhu Community Hospital.
