Three new Army posts for Babai Valley conservation
The Nepal Army has set up three posts in Babai Valley of the Bardiya National Park (BNP) for conservation of endangered wild species there. With this, the number of Army posts guarding the Babai valley has reached eight.

Five rhinos were translocated to Bardiya from Chitwan in March. Chief of the Rana Shardul Battalion Rajendra Panta said the soldiers were deployed to Chepang, Sodhkhola, Lamodamar, Ratamate, Gothi, Kalinara, Shivapur and Baspani areas.
Babai Valley, which was once considered an ideal habitat for tigers and rhinos with a huge expanse of forest cover and grassland and limited human disturbance, gained notoriety for poaching of endangered wild species, particularly between 2002 and 2006 when the Maoist insurgency was at its peak.
With increased contributions of government bodies, conservation partners, security forces and communities, there has been a gradual revival of habitats in recent years.
Chief Conservation Officer at BNP Ramesh Kumar Thapa said there are 33 Army posts in the BNP. (PR)
