At a press meet in Chitwan, Dahal said national interest comes first for him and he harbours desire to fulfil the responsibilities towards the state and its citizens rather than aspiring for key state positions. He also urged reporters not to question him about the next government leadership.
Dahal said formation of KP Sharma Oli-led government was agreed upon rather than formation of a national unity government before Oli was installed at the prime ministerial helm. “Currently, there is a KP Sharma Oli-led government. If, in future, issues are raised about a consensus government, it is a different one from that agreed earlier,” he said.
The former prime minister refuted the reports about his ambition to become PM as baseless and said, “We supported someone else to become PM. Those reports are nonsensical.” Dahal said national unity for the sake of constitution implementation, reconstruction campaign, safeguard national sovereignty was the current need of the country. I am more concerned about all these issues rather than the change of guard, he said.
Dahal was hopeful of striking a deal with Madhes-based parties after the conclusion of Nepali Congress general convention. “Formal talks will start once the general convention ends. Madhesi leaders won’t have to protest anymore,” he said.
