Chief District Officer (CDO) of Gorkha has been transferred for he allegedly failed to extend hospitality to UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal during the latter’s recent visit to the district.
CDO Baldev Gautam, who was transferred to Gorkha a month and a half ago, has been transferred to Saptari. Sources said that he was transferred as he did not work in favour of the Maoists.
Dahal was in the district on Saturday to attend a party programme. He had also expressed his anger and threatened to show his “strength to some employees of the Home Ministry”.
“I am very worried after seeing the situation here in Gorkha. I telephoned the home minister and informed him about the matter. We came here, but he was indifferent,” said the Maoist chief, referring to CDO Gautam without naming him.
“Even the employees deployed by the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML used to welcome us in the past. But the officers mobilised by our ministry did not care who visited the district and returned,” said the Maoist chief during the party’s training programme. The home ministry portfolio has been given to Maoist leader Shakti Bahadur Basnet in the incumbent government.
According to high level sources, Chudamani Khadka, the former personal
secretary to Dahal, told the party activists that he would transfer the office chiefs in the district if they refuse to work in favour of the Maoist party. Khadka is currently district in-charge of Gorkha for the party.
Preferring anonymity, an office chief in the district said that Khadka had threatened to transfer the head of the government offices if they failed to work in his favour. “It seems that the Maoists have adopted the strategies of keeping the office chiefs under their control,” he added.
LDO ‘displaced’
GORKHA: Local Development Officer (LDO) Premraj Giri has been displaced from the district due to alleged threats from local Maoist leaders. Sources said LDO Giri left the district following repeated threats from the Maoist district In-Charge Chudamani Khadka. It is learnt that Khadka pressurised LDO Giri to invite Energy Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi as the chief guest during the district municipal meeting. “The Maoist leaders threatened the LDO alleging him that he had taken initiative to invite the representative of Naya Shakti in the district council meeting,” said an employee at the District Development Committee. The meeting, that was scheduled to be held last Wednesday, was postponed after LDO Giri left for the Capital.
