Nepal Students’ Union has shut down Oxford College in Gaidakot, Nawalparasi, after it was revealed that the college had enrolled students for Bachelor in Electronics Engineering programme without obtaining affiliation from any university.
The college has 37 students enrolled in BE course without university affiliation.
Purusottam Kafle, one of the students, on Wednesday said he had paid Rs 170,000 to the college only last week.
“We don’t know if we will get a chance to sit for exams without affiliation,” Kafle said. “We learned the truth after Pokhara University published a notice saying it has not given any affiliation for BE course.”
Tilak Panthi, assistant principal of the college said they had enrolled the students for BE programme after securing verbal consent for affiliation from the Pokhara University.
“If the university will not provide us the affiliation, we will register our students from other colleges,” said Panthi.
He added that a delegation from the college led by Principal Hari Bhandari has gone to Kathmandu to resolve the issue so that the students could give their exams.
