Bardiya National Park to train visitors on wildlife safety

After a Dutch national and his Nepali guide were attacked by a tiger inside the Bardiya National Park (BNP) on Saturday, the park authority has decided to train the tourists the ways to keep themselves safe if they happen to come face to face with a wild animal.
Ramesh Kumar Thapa, chief conservation officer of the park, said from now on they will be conducting
safety training session to all the visitors.
Earlier, the park used to provide safety training to the guides only.
On Saturday, Dutch national, Gorard Vaan Laan, survived a tiger attack at Baghauraphant area inside the park by climbing a tree. He clung to the tree for about two hours before the help arrived. The animal also attacked and injured his guide, Krishna Shah. The park officials said the rescued Dutch tourist has already left for Kathmandu while his guide Shah is receiving treatment at the park’s medical facility.
Another guide Umanga Khadka and owner of Bardiya Tiger Resort Ramji Thapa were also with the team when the tiger attacked them. They survived the incident by climbing up tree.
Ashok Kumar Bhandari of the park said the park is home to an estimated 70 tigers.
