Hill-origin people march in support of Tarai protest
The people originally from Hill community took out a rally at Malangawa, the district headquarters of Sarlahi, on Thursday, expressing solidarity with the ongoing Madhes agitation.
The people originally from Hill community took out a rally at Malangawa, the district headquarters of Sarlahi, on Thursday, expressing solidarity with the ongoing Madhes agitation.
They marched around the town chanting slogans of brotherhood between the Hill and Madhes communities and urged the government to address the demands raised by the Madhes-based parties. They also distributed meals to the demonstrators and participated in the human chain protest along the postal highway.
The Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM), an alliance of various Madhes-centric parties, has been staging protest in several Tarai districts, including Sarlahi, for the past two months.
Stating that their agitation is against the government, the SLMM activists have urge all people in the district to maintain social harmony.
The SLMM leader and CA member, Jangi Lal Raya, said that public participation has increased in the their peaceful demonstration in the recent days. “We are in this struggle to ensure public rights,” he said, “Because of our peaceful demonstration, we have gained support from all sides.”
Raya added that the support shown by all castes and communities living in Tarai to the SLMM protest has proved the legitimacy of Madhes demands.
Protesters burn Oli, Dahal in effigies
KAPILVASTU: The agitating Sanghiya Madhesi Morcha activists burned the effigies of Prime Minister Oli and UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal at Taulihawa in Kapilvastu. The protesters accused Oli and Dahal of ignoring the demands of and Madhesi people. Nepal Sadbhawana Party central member Nishar Ahammad Khan said that the Madhes will not accept Oli as the prime minister, claiming that he was elected by the supporters of monarchy and people of “Khas mentality”.
