UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said his party will support anyone as the next prime minister if the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML come together to form the new government.
Insisting that the Maoist party had not claimed for the posts of President and prime minister, Dahal reiterated that three major parties should work together for the implementation of constitution. He also stressed the need for consensus among the major parties until the election of the central, federal and local governments.
Speaking at a party programme at Itahari in Sunsari district on Wednesday, the Maoist chief claimed that “power centres” forced him to be the President or prime minister and finish him off. He said he would focus on strengthening the party and unification with splintered groups for two years. Urging Baburam Bhattarai to return the party, Dahal said his decision to sever ties with the Maoist was against the party, people and the country.
In another context, Dahal said the prevalent unrest in the Tarai is caused by the “foreign reactionaries”, without going into details. He claimed the landlords and feudal are to blame for threatening social harmony in the Tarai.
The Maoist chief said Madhesi people should stand together against communal violence to institutionalise federalism while addressing the training programme jointly organised by party’s Kochila, Limbuwan and Kirant state committees.
Earlier talking to reporters in Biratnagar, Dahal urged the major parties to abide by the 16-point agreement. He said a consensus government should be formed by including Madhes-based parties. He revealed that Prime Minister Sushil Koirala had expressed his commitment to form a UML-led government soon after the promulgation of the new constitution.
