Police arrested Lahuram Chaudhary, Tharu Kalyankarini Sabha chairman in the district, for his alleged involvement in the Tikapur violence in which nine people were killed.
Chaudhary, who had chaired the first mass meeting held in Musuriya after the Tikapur incident, was arrested from his home in the district. Police also arrested Laxman Tharu, central committee member of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Loktantrik, from Rupandehi on Wednesday. Both Chaudhary and Tharu are the prominent leaders arrested so far in connection with the Tikapur incident.
Police said they arrested the duo to investigate whether they are involved in the clash or not. “Legal action will be initaited if the arrestees are found guilty. Otherwise they will be released,” District Police chief Bikram
Chand said. Police have arrested 16 people in connection with the Tikapur incident that claimed the lives of eight policemen and a toddler on August 24.
