These homeless people said they are living under plastic sheets, tarpaulins, inside caves, and even taking refuge in cowsheds while locals in remote areas are compelled to stay under the open sky. 

According to the data maintained by the District Development Committee, including Thaha Municipality and VDC offices, most houses made of mud and brick in the district have developed cracks while many have been completely destroyed by the quake and subsequent aftershocks in the district.

An earthquake victim, Buddharatna Manandhar of Chitlang VDC said majority of old houses in the district have been destroyed. 

“My old house has been damaged beyond repair, but new homes in the district have not been affected by the quake”, Manandhar said.

Meanwhile, around 1,200 homes have been completely destroyed in Tistung VDC while 1,388 houses and buildings in northern Thaha Municipality have not been affected by the quake. Some 1,200 people of Hetauda sub-metropolis have been rendered homeless as their houses have been completely damaged by the quake and aftershocks. 

Similarly, altogether 700 houses in Aagra have been razed to the ground by the quake whereas 500 houses are affected in Gogane VDC, 301 houses in Kulekhani, and 391 houses in Bhimphedi VDC have been badly damaged by the quake. 

According to District Administration Office (DAO), the details of earthquake victims and demolished houses has been collected in the preliminary phase. The damage assessment on livestocks and other properties will be conducted in the second phase.

Furthermore, around 50 government offices have been completely demolished by the quake and the frequent aftershocks in the district. The DAO informed that these offices cannot entertain service seekers for the time being.
