A former commander of the dissolved People’s Liberation Army (PLA), who has been living with shrapnel in his body, has accused the then CPN (Maoist) party and the government of being apathetic towards his plight.
Man Bahadur BK, 25, of Masina, Bhalchaur-6, said he has not received any support from the party as well as the government though he was seriously injured at the war at Khara on April 6, 2004 and has been living with three shrapnel in his left hand, three in his legs and one in the rib.
BK, who even reached Lucknow in India for treatment, said he spent over Rs 500,000 in the past nine years. After the doctors said they might have to sever his hands and feet to remove the shrapnel, he instead chose to live with them.
He said he spends Rs 1,000 per week for his medicines and has been suffering from symptoms of paralysis of late. He said he really depressed, as he was unable to get any support for his treatment.
“Due to paralysis, I have been unable to work and I am having a hard time earning a living,” BK said, adding that he is also facing problems to care for his family of five as all his property was lost in his treatment.
“My children’s education has also been hampered due to lack of financial resources,” he said.
BK had joined the PLA at a tender age of 16 and fought bravely in the wars at various places, including Beni, Jumla, Arghakhachi, Kalikot and Khara.
He expressed sorrow over the apathy shown by his party for which he almost sacrificed his life.
