The mega auto event saw transactions worth Rs5 billion, said the organisers Nepal Automobile Dealers’ Association (Nada) and Global Exposition & Management Services.
They said the expo was a huge success in terms of the number of visitors and volume of transactions. Last year’s expo was attended by 55,000 visitors, and exhibitors did business valued at Rs1.5 billion. Most participants said that they received more bookings and enquiries compared to the previous year.
The motor vehicle jamboree, which was originally scheduled to end on Sunday, was extended by one day due to the rush of visitors. “This year’s expo is the biggest event yet in the country. Almost all the car and bike exhibitors recorded sales and bookings surpassing expectations.
The swelling number of visitors and bookings every year show that the domestic auto market has been expanding,” said Shambhu Dahal, coordinator of the expo.
He added that the expo was bigger in terms of participating brands, new launches, hall design and exhibition area.
Likewise, Suraj Manandhar, business head of Life Automobile, the authorised distributor of Fiat in Nepal, said that the expo had helped to expand their business, and that they received more enquiries and bookings than expected.
“We received 46 bookings for our new models within seven days,” said Manandhar, adding that the expo had helped to establish the Fiat brand. Life Automobile was appointed as the authorised distributor just before last year’s auto show.
Datsun’s authorised distributor in Nepal, Pioneer MotoCorp, said that it received 120 bookings for the Datsun GO, GO limited edition and GO+MUV. “Around 2,000 potential customers visited our stall which is overwhelming,” said Sandeep Sharda, managing director of the company.
Pawan Singh Bhandari, assistant general manager of sales at Pooja International, the authorised distributor of Volkswagen in Nepal, said that they received 50 percent more bookings this year.
“Last year, the total number of bookings amounted to 30 units. But we received 61 bookings at this year’s auto show,” he said.
Another exhibitor, Dugar Brothers and Sons, the authorised distributor of Nissan, launched its Micra hatchback and Xtrail SUV during the show. It said that it received bookings for 25 cars.
Similarly, two-wheeler exhibitors have termed the expo a huge success. “Enquiries for all our bikes were overwhelming,” said Punam Singh, marketing manager of Hansaraj Hulas Chand and Company.
A total of 15 two-wheeler brands, namely Bajaj, Hero, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, MV Agusta, Hero Electric, KTM, Mahindra, Royal Enfield, TVS, UM Bikes, Vespa, Benelli and Aprilla participated in the expo.
Likewise, 14 four-wheeler brands, namely Tata, Hyundai, Maruti Suzuki, Volkswagen, Ford, Datsun, Daihatsu, Fiat, Honda, Kia, Nissan, Skoda, Toyota and Ssangyong took part in the fair.
