The number of taxpayers in Nepal reached 4.7 percent of the total population as of the last fiscal year, according to the Inland Revenue Department (IRD).
There were 1,292,345 registered taxpayers in the last fiscal year, it said. Among them, 765,605 taxpayers hold commercial permanent account numbers (PAN) and 526,740 have personal PAN.
Likewise, 153,850 with commercial PAN have registered for VAT while 46,087 have registered for excise duty. The IRD said 98 percent of commercial PAN holders do e-filing of tax details.
