Bill ploy to foil charter execution: UML Gen secy

He charged that Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba were motivated by a third party’s agenda intended at prolonging the constitutional and political crisis in the country.
“The government is trying to put off the elections by putting forth the anti-national amendment bill that would not even secure the required two-thirds majority in Parliament for endorsement,” said Pokharel while talking to reporters in Birendranagar on Wednesday.
The UML leader claimed the manner in which the bill was registered at Parliament without consulting the opposition parties made the government’s intention clear.
He added that the amendment bill disregards the geo-political situation of Nepal and aims to incorporate Hindi as an “official business language”, appoint naturalised citizen to top constitutional posts and gradually separate Tarai districts starting from Province 5. He said Nepal’s constitution is most liberal on the provision of naturalised citizenship in South Asia.
“The constitution has a clear provision to disallow the transformed Legislature-Parliament to change the province border demarcation. Yet, PM Dahal and Deuba are hell-bent on separating the Tarai and Hills,” said Pokharel.
“That’s the reason why local level leaders from the Maoist Centre and the NC have not supported the anti-national amendment proposal.”
