The blockade ongoing for almost three months has caused an acute shortage of fuel, drugs and other essential items in Nepal, crippling the country’s economy, and affecting the victims of the April 25 earthquake, who are still living in makeshift tents and facing crisis of daily essentials.
The participants of the 7th Human Rights National Magna meet said the transit rights of a landlocked country should not be constrained under any pretexts to disrupt the flow of goods and services.
“In no circumstance can any country infringe the transit access of a landlocked country,” said Charan Prasai, rights defender, “Blockade is inhuman and we have jointly vowed to fight against this.”
Prasai said the state should take all sorts of measures to address the looming humanitarian crisis.
