Foreign delegates visit Hanumandhoka, Sankhu
Foreign delegates, who arrived here in Kathmandu to participate in the International Conference on Nepal's Reconstruction, on Wednesday visited quake-ravaged Hanumandhoka and Sankhu.The quake has damaged around 80 per cent historical and archaeological buildings including Kasthamandap, Narayan Temple and Laxmi Narayan temple, among others in the area.
The delegates were shown around the area wearing helmet, gloves, mask and safety jackets. Chief at Hanumandhoka Management Office, Saraswoti Singh, briefed the guests about the area.

He further said an extensive action plan would be formulated by UNESCO for the reconstruction of archaeological sites.
Similarly, JICA Chief Dr Akihiko Tanaka said that JICA was ready to provide necessary support for the reconstruction of infrastructures damaged by the quake.
Expressing sorrow over the loss caused by the quake in Nepal, Sri Lankan Minister of Disaster Management, A H M Fowsie said that his country was ready to lend support to the reconstruction task.

Likewise, the delegates also visited the quake-ravaged Sankhu area on the outskirts of Kathmandu.
Most of the houses in the area had suffered damage due to the Gorkha Earthquake and subsequent aftershocks. The foreign guests visited Suntole, Dhokahiti, Chalakhu and Sallatole of Sankhu.
Joint-Secretary at the Finance Ministry, Surya Acharya, and Sankhu Reconstruction Committee Chairman, Suresh Pradhan, briefed the guests on the damage caused by the earthquake in the area and the reconstruction plans.
On the occasion, Head of UNESCO delegation, Christian Manhart, told the National News Agency (RSS) that they would support for the reconstruction of historical and archeological sites and the assessment of the damage was underway for the same.
