Migrant workers in Britain help quake survivors
Gulmi Jilla Samaj UK, an organisation of Nepali migrant workers, has provided Rs 500,000 to earthquake survivors in the district.Advisor to the Samaj Moti Bhandari handed over the amount to District Disaster Management Sub-committee Coordinator Durga Prasad Pande on Wednesday. The organisation also provided Rs 100,000 to the Hope Disability Centre, Rs 100,000 to the Shantipur branch of Nepal Red Cross Society for repairing its ambulance, Rs 74,000 for the treatment of a 10-year-old child who was raped last year and a voice recorder to journalist Prem Sunar.
So far, the organisation has provided more than Rs 5 million for the development of education, health care and communication sectors in the district.
Likewise, Gulmi Samaj Samiti Bahrain has also provided Rs 163,000 to Nepal Red Cross Society for establishing a blood bank in the district. Representatives of the organisation, Ghanashyam Kharal, Maniram Pande and Nirmal Upadhyay jointly handed over the amount to Gulmi Red Cross chief Anup Kumar Shrestha.
Nepalis help co-workers
KUALA LUMPUR: Nepali employees of the Meru-based Top Globe Company in Malaysia have provided more than Rs 1 million as relief to fellow employees who lost their homes or family members to the Great Earthquake. The employees formed a Prawasi Hatemalo Yuwa Sangh and collected Rs 1,055,500 among themselves. Each victim was provided with Rs 10,000 to Rs 40,000 cash based on their loss, said Ramesh Bhattarai, one of the campaigners. “Some of our friends have lost their houses and family members to the earthquake and as fellow Nepalis, we decided to help them out,” he said. The amount was collected from Nepalis working in factory Number 2, 9, 19, 20, 22, 24, 25 and 29 of the company. More than 2,000 Nepali people work in the eight factories.
