Visiting Barpak in Gorkha district on Tuesday, the epicenter of April 25 deadly 7.9 magnitude earthquake, and other quake-affected places in the district, Koirala said that government was fully committed with relief work and the rehabilitation of the damaged houses and communities would begin soon after the relief was concluded. “Tents and foodstuff are in much demand here and the government is coordinating with neighbouring countries to deal with the post-quake situation,” he said.
Koirala also said that the government was weighing the possibility of rebuilding the houses damaged by the temblor in villages. “We should bravely face the challenges in unison instead of harbouring pessimistic views,” Koirala said.
Koirala also informed that all the political parties had agreed to jointly deal with the current crisis in the country. The parliament meeting on Thursday would provide a future course to tackle the situation, Koirala said.
The prime minister reached the district on a Nepal Army chopper and had inspected the quake-hit areas from the sky. Prem Bahadur Thapa, battalion Commander of Bhairavi Battalion, said that the prime minister will also meet the quake-affected people if weather favors the chopper to land in the area.
Chief of Army Staff Gaurav Shamsher Rana had accompanied the PM during the visit.
