Senior justice Ram Kumar Prasad Shah will take over as the new chief. Sharma is officially retiring on October 11 upon reaching the age limit of 65.
Born on October 10, 1949, Sharma joined the judicial service in 1974 as section officer. He entered the apex court in 2005 having served in various capacities including the chief judge of the appellate court.
The Parliamentary Hearing Special Committee (PHSC) has already endorsed Ram Kumar Shah as the new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court after the Constitutional Committee recommended him to replace Sharma.
President Ram Baran Yadav will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Shah.
