According to the UAE court proceedings, the victim's family has agreed to accept the blood money. Rai’s will be easier once the blood money is handed over to the victim’s family.

The UAE court had demanded Rs 8.6 million for blood money to save Khaling.

A lower court in Abu Dhabi, UAE, convicted 23-year-old Rai on the charge of his alleged involvement in the murder of a Pakistani national and handed down death sentence. Rai, a permanent resident of Matshyapokhari in Sankhuwasabha district, was given the sentence on July 5, 2013. He was arrested on October 25, 2012 after a Pakistani national with whom he had a fight in a restaurant died later.

The campaign's joint coordinator Sujan Khaling, talking to eKantipur said that Nepalis living outside the country donated generously for the much needed blood money to save Rai's life. "Around Rs 35 million has been collected. The amount remaining after deducting the blood money and other expenses will be deposited in a trust," he said, "More than Rs 20 million will remain for the trust and will be used for rescuing others like Rai."

The Foreign Employment Promotion Board said that a letter has been sent to the Foreign Ministry requesting to notify the UAE court about the deposition of blood money. “Khaling's release will be easier as soon as the government takes initiatives for the same," said Khaling.
