Brief showers offer respite from sizzling heat
The overcast weather and brief thundershowers since Friday night have brought some much-needed relief to many parts of the country sweltering in scorching temperatures for more than a week.A sudden change in the climate in the light of a depression in the Bay of Bengal brought cool breeze and brief rains to the hills of the central and eastern regions on Saturday. This weather condition is likely to continue until Monday with chances of brief thundershowers in the eastern and central regions, along with a few places in the West, Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) said on Saturday.
The country was reeling under severe heat due to a prolonged dry spell, thus affecting the normal life particularly in the central and western districts. The brief rainfall activity, along with overcast conditions, has eased the heat wave 'Loo' in Tarai districts to some extent.
According to MFD updates based on reports received from its 16 meteorological stations on Saturday, Jiri in the Central region received the highest rainfall measuring 19.4 millimeters, with Pokhara, Dhankuta, Taplejung, Jumla, Dadeldhura, Okhaldhunga, Kathmandu, Dang and Taplejung recording light rains. Birendranagar and Nepalgunj in the Mid-western region saw traces of rainfall. Nepalgunj recorded the highest day temperature at 42 degree Celsius while Jiri at 11.5 had the minimum temperature on the day.
