According to the constitutional provision, the president will appoint the chief justice after the parliamentary hearing approves the name recommended by the Constitutional Council (CC).
During the parliamentary hearing conducted on Thursday, UCPN (Maoist) lawmaker gave critical support to Sharma citing unsatisfactory answers by him, while the committee member Chitra Bahadur KC approved Sharma's name for the post. However, Nepal Majdoor Kisan Party (NMKP) remained neutral.
Three complaints including corruption in judiciary and nepotism by Sharma were lodged against Sharma within the given 72-hour deadline after the CC recommended his name for the CJ post.
