UML decides not to join govt
Two days after signing a pact on formation of coalition government with the Nepali Congress, the CPN-UML has decided not to join the government over fresh power-sharing tussle.Ekantipur Report
A meeting of the party Standing Committee—a powerful body—held at Singha Durbar in the Capital on Tuesday made such decision accusing the NC of retreating from previous commitment on sharing of plum ministers including Home.
The fresh tussle between the parties follows NC's alleged refusal to give Home minister portfolio to the UML, sources said.
UML Secretary Bishnu Poudel said his party has decided not to join the government until the agreement is implemented.
The UML has been laying claim to portfolios including Ministry of Home Affairs and Finance Ministry.
On Sunday, the NC and the UML had inked a seven-point deal paving the way for the formation of a new government to be led by NC President Sushil Koirala.
According to the deal, the UML has agreed to vote for NC candidate Koirala and hold the elections for the post of presdient, vice president and prime minister after promulgating the new constitution in one year.
