Speaking at an interaction programme organised by the Reporters Club here in the Capital on Saturday, leader Upadhyay informed that his party was holding discussions on the appropriate time for the presidential election, adding that the party would forge understanding with CPN-UML regarding the suitable time for the election.
"We are in the midst of discussion over the matter of fixing one year term for president and vice president. There is no confusion regarding the mandate of the Constituent Assembly and we also know that we have to share power with other parties as we do not have clear majority," said the NC leader," Hence, we will forge a package deal including the matter of president, vice president and CA Chairman."
Also speaking at the programme, UML leader Bhim Rawal said that NC and UML could strike agreement if incumbent president and vice president were endorsed by the second CA and if their terms were fixed for one year.
Furthermore, Rawal stressed on package deal between the two major parties.
NC and UML have been divided over the issue of president and vice president. While NC is in favour of retaining the incumbents until the promulgation of the new constitution, UML has demanded fresh election of the two posts arguing that new president and vice president should be eleted as per the mandate of second CA election.
